Safeguarding
Duddon St. Peter's School is committed to the safeguarding of all pupils. Relevant safeguarding policies can be viewed on this site. Safeguarding issues form part of regular discussions both between staff and at governors' meetings and safeguarding regularly forms part of our governor meeting agendas. The Head teacher (Paul Hudson) is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Claire Entwistle, and we have a designated Safeguarding Governor, Liz Smith. Discussions with governors cover the safety of the school building and its grounds, as well as any individual safeguarding concerns about individuals.
Several governors have received safer recruitment training, and all staff and governors have undergone safeguarding training. Staff, and volunteers who help in school all undergo DBS checks on their backgrounds and the school follows strict safeguarding practices.
If you have a concern about any practices involving safeguarding, please contact the Head teacher, the school office or a member of staff.
Please also view our information on E-safety issues, on the information page.
As part of our school's ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties we are fully behind the government's Prevent Strategy. From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for Schools.
We build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views. The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent awareness training to equip staff to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas. Our Safeguarding Lead has attended training about Prevent and how to deal with any issues they may see inside or outside school. This information has been communicated to staff and governors, and staff have undertaken Prevent training individually.

OPERATION ENCOMPASS:
“In conjunction with Cheshire Police, Duddon St. Peter’s Primary School is involved in a new initiative called Operation Encompass. The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident. Following such an incident, children will often arrive at school distressed, upset, worried and unprepared. Operation Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called Key Adults) are made aware early enough to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe and included.
At Duddon St. Peter’s Primary School our Key Adult is Paul Hudson (Head teacher), who is the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
This is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to support and help children and families within our school community when they need it the most.
You can find our more by visiting www.operationencompass.org or by contacting our Key Adult.”
