Spelling sheets

Welcome to class 3's spelling page.

Here you will find your spelling lists, ways to make learning your spellings more fun and the national curriculum spelling lists.

Every Monday, we will have our spelling test and will focus on spellings and handwriting in our literacy lesson.  During this time, we focus on strategies for learning the spellings, identify tricky parts of the words and understand the meaning of the words.

Each list is learnt for two weeks.  Week 1 is a straightforward spelling test.  Week 2 is a spelling test using dictated sentences.

It is important that you learn your spellings at home every day, so you are prepared for the test.  The idea behind this way of teaching is to stop the words being learnt to simply pass a test.  Many of you will learn your spellings each week, but then forget them or use them incorrectly once we have moved on.  I have attached a sheet that has lots of ideas for learning your spellings in different ways.  I do not need to see this work so please ignore the message about handing them in.

There will always be a copy of the spellings on here, you will each receive a paper copy and there are always spare sheets available in class.

In addition to the weekly spellings, the children are also focusing on learning the list from the national curriculum.  I have uploaded a copy of this but I will also send a copy home.  Please try and spend some time with your child working on these.  They are tricky and there are a lot of them!  The children are assessed on these every term and are set target spellings from these.  They have time in class to work on these.

Many thanks
